Say "CHEESE!" - Kidding, Just Relax
Getting photos done professionally and capturing long-lasting memories of your family is something you will not regret. However, that's not to say that it doesn't come without a fair amount of stress. You feel it when you're picking the right outfits and during the struggle to get the traditional and perfect all-smiles photo. But it doesn't have to be an overwhelming experience, especially during the shoot itself.
I love a photo where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling but an even better photo is a family interacting naturally. When you smile at your child, they will smile back. Give a little tummy tickle and their beautiful face will light up. For older kids an inside joke will make them blush or bring out that smile that is too often hidden. These moments are even more important to remember, capturing the beauty of your relationship and the love shared in your family.
Of course this advice is easier said than done, but it will go far if you take it. Often times whispering to our children to smile or look at the camera will cause push back and create tension. We won't give ourselves the chance to show our best self and our children will become more and more resistant. So take a deep breath and don't worry about getting the perfect photo, that's my job. I'll help you get in the right spot and give you a few prompts, all you have to do is relax and have a little fun .... there will be some good ones, I promise!
